Do you have several blogs you follow?

Do you have your own blogs and websites?

Do you have categories of blogs?

Wouldn’t it be nice to share those in an organized way?

There is a way — a blog roll using the “Links” widget.

Here’s how:

1 First create link categories under from your Dashboard under “Links” –> “Link Categories.  This would be things like

  • My Blogs
  • How To Blogs
  • Writing Lesson Blogs
  • etc

You’ll want each category of your blogs or websites to have its own “link category.”

2 Next, add the links for each of this blogs, choosing the link category to which they belong.

Do this in Dashboard –> Links –> Add New

Name: name of website or blog

Web Address: URL

Description: Tell what it’s about; this will show up when the cursor hovers over it. In the example below, I chose to put the blog author’s name.

Categories: Select the category you set up that fits this website.

Target: How do you want the link to open?  I usually chose “new window”

Sometimes you want to save links, but not make them public; just check the “Keep this link private” box, and it will not display publicly.

Click “Add Link”

3 Add the category to your blog in a sidebar or footer using widgets.

In Dashboard, go to Appearance –> Widgets  or go to your theme and choose customize.

Select “Widget” then sidebar or footer. Next click “Find a Widget” and search for “Links.”

Select/Add it.

Click its dropdown menu.

Choose the category you want.

You can add more than one “Links” widget.
